[Figures that Riku would find him anyway. Some things never changed, did they?

His fingers curl against the bark of the tree as a weak sounding laugh escapes him.]

Hey.

[With his head ducked, it's easier to hide his expression from the other, right? Right.]

Shouldn't you be celebrating?

[No, not really]

That can wait. Got some other stuff to take care of first.

Like what?

[What could be more important than a party! Come on, Riku.]

Whatever it is can wait. This is really big!

[He manages to put on a smile as he finally looks at his friend, fingers having curled into fists now.]

Nah, this is more important.

[Riku glances over at Sora]

Can't celebrate without my best friend there, can I?

[Best friend. Boyfriend. Riku's not sure what they are, really]

[Yeah, well, Sora isn't sure either. To be completely honest he still hasn't grasp that his feelings for Riku run deeper than just friend.]

You didn't have to wait for me.

[It's not said with near as much protest as he might have used any other time, his heart just not into it.]

I didn't want to be a party pooper.

I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for you, Sora, so why would I want to celebrate without you?

[Sora immediately shook his head.]

Don't say that! You would have come back even if I hadn't gone after you! You've got the strongest heart of anyone, Riku!

[dreamsuccessor]

Says the guy with, what, two or three other people in his?

[Riku reaches over and taps Sora's chest, over his heart]

Trust me, you're the reason I'm here.

[seekthelight]

[That, at least, gets a pout out of Sora. Better than his distance, closed off look right?]

That doesn't mean anything.

[One of his hands comes up to grab Riku's and the other will be able to feel the way Sora's are trembling now.]

And you're the reason I'm here. You saved me this time, remember?

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku feels him shaking and has to fight off the urge to hug him tightly. He settles for pulling Sora against his side instead]

Yeah. Still, I can't celebrate without you--it wouldn't be right.

[seekthelight]

[He almost crumbles. Almost. But he has to stay strong. Riku's strong and Sora doesn't want to be the weak link now.

So he leans against his friend's side, closing his eyes tightly as he feels them start to burn.]

...Trouble kind of follows me around, though. What if I ruin things?

[dreamsuccessor]

...what are you talking about?

[Riku looks down at Sora, frowning]

You don't ruin anything.

Xehanort was almost--he almost brought together all thirteen and it would have been because of me! Because I didn't--because I didn't realize what was going on and I just ran headfirst into trouble!

[It comes pouring out before he can stop himself, his voice breaking a bit at the end as he turns his head to the side, reaching up to hastily wipe at his eyes.]

[dreamsuccessor]

[He's crying.

Sora is crying.

It breaks Riku's heart, and he decides to screw it and pulls Sora into a hug]

None of us realized what was going on, Sora. None of us knew what he was doing, not even Axel--Lea, whatever his name is now. It's not your fault.

[seekthelight]

[For a moment Sora is stiff in the other's arms, trembling as he tries to pull himself together--

But it's pretty impossible. A choked sob escapes him as he crumbles into Riku's embrace, arms going around his friend--his boyfriend--whatever they are and clinging tightly.]

I should have known, though! I should have seen it coming and been able to fight!

[dreamsuccessor]

You're not perfect, Sora. You can't know everything, you can't do everything. What happened isn't your fault.

[Riku holds Sora tightly, burying his face in his hair]

Don't blame yourself.

[seekthelight]

[Another muffled sob escapes him and his hands clutch at Riku's shirt as he buries his face against the other's chest now.]

But I'm suppose to! I'm suppose to be able to fight them and I didn't! I got caught instead--I wasn't strong enough and I almost--

[He almost lost his heart. He almost lost everything.]

Hey.

[Riku pulls away so he can look Sora in the eyes]

There's no almost, you got it? You're safe. I'm here, right? Have I ever let you get hurt?

[Ignoring the times he was the one hurting him, of course]

[It takes everything he has to actually meet Riku's gaze, his normally bright eyes dull as tears continue to fall.]

No. You..no, you haven't.

[Even when he was caught in darkness, trapped in a form that wasn't his own, Riku had been there to help him. To watch over him. He owed Riku so much and trusted him more than he did anyone else.]

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku reaches out, wiping away Sora's tears]

Exactly. So don't worry about it--so long as I'm here, you're safe.

[seekthelight]

[Sora's breath hitches and he manages to nod, his hands releasing their death grip on Riku's shirt so they can lift and take hold of his wrists instead.]

I know. [Insert a weak smile here.] My knight in shining armor like always.

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku smiles, blushing a little]

More like knight in dingy, dented armor.

[seekthelight]

[His smile grows a little bit and he shakes his head, giving Riku's wrist a squeeze.]

No, your armor is perfect! Fitting for a knight as strong and brave as you, Riku.

[dreamsuccessor]

Yeah, but I look terrible in anything shiny.

[He smirks]

Depends on the color.

[He reaches up to tug at the other's hair gently.]

As long as it compliments your hair it's okay.
