[Another muffled sob escapes him and his hands clutch at Riku's shirt as he buries his face against the other's chest now.]

But I'm suppose to! I'm suppose to be able to fight them and I didn't! I got caught instead--I wasn't strong enough and I almost--

[He almost lost his heart. He almost lost everything.]

[Riku pulls away so he can look Sora in the eyes]

There's no almost, you got it? You're safe. I'm here, right? Have I ever let you get hurt?

[Ignoring the times he was the one hurting him, of course]

[It takes everything he has to actually meet Riku's gaze, his normally bright eyes dull as tears continue to fall.]

No. You..no, you haven't.

[Even when he was caught in darkness, trapped in a form that wasn't his own, Riku had been there to help him. To watch over him. He owed Riku so much and trusted him more than he did anyone else.]

[Riku reaches out, wiping away Sora's tears]

Exactly. So don't worry about it--so long as I'm here, you're safe.

[Sora's breath hitches and he manages to nod, his hands releasing their death grip on Riku's shirt so they can lift and take hold of his wrists instead.]

I know. [Insert a weak smile here.] My knight in shining armor like always.

[Riku smiles, blushing a little]

More like knight in dingy, dented armor.

[His smile grows a little bit and he shakes his head, giving Riku's wrist a squeeze.]

No, your armor is perfect! Fitting for a knight as strong and brave as you, Riku.

Yeah, but I look terrible in anything shiny.

[He smirks]

Depends on the color.

[He reaches up to tug at the other's hair gently.]

As long as it compliments your hair it's okay.

[Riku makes a face at that]

Nothing shiny compliments my hair.

[Breaths coming easier now and his body no longer trembling like it had been, Sora leans forward to press the tips of their noses together.]

Gold and silver would. Black too! Shiny stuff in those colors, I mean!

[Riku's breath catches even as he laughs at Sora's ridiculousness, leaning in to meet him]

Black's different, and I already wear yellow and white, Sora.

[And he's just going to take that as the okay to Eskimo kiss the other.]

So we just need to get you shining armor and it'll be perfect!

[His eyes slip shut and he's smiling softly]

So if I'm a knight, are you my king?

[seekthelight]

[Good thing he closes his eyes because Sora is definitely blushing a bit now.]

[Riku doesn't move away, but he does take Sora's hands properly]

As your knight, I promise to keep you safe forever. To always be there for you, even if you don't know I'm there. To help you stop the darkness.

[Oh god no why Riku stop!

The blush blossoms even more prominently across his cheeks as Riku takes his hands and says all of that, Sora torn between laughing nervously and just...just swooning. His heart swells and he feels better than he has since everything happened.

All because of Riku.]

..I know you will, because you always have, Riku. You're always with me and that's what gives me the strength to keep going.

[Riku opens his eyes, smiling. That's the Sora he knows and loves.]

It means a lot to hear you say that, you know.

[Only Riku can ever make him feel like this. Can bring him back from such a dark place.]

Yeah, but most people wouldn't say that about a guy who did everything I did. You're special, Sora.

I don't blame you for any of it and neither should anyone else.

[It's said with a lot of conviction, Sora serious as he lifts his head enough to press their foreheads together now.]

We all make bad choices sometimes. What matters is that you came back.

[He huffs]

I don't think I could stay away from you for long, Sora.

[Sora's smile softens and there's definitely something absolutely adoring in his expression.]

Good. I wouldn't want you to.

[dreamsuccessor]

[He sees that adoration and his own expression slips to something just as soft, just as loving.]

I wouldn't want to.

[Riku's voice is low and a little rough]

Good.

[Because it would hurt far too much if he ever lost Riku for good.

Hesitantly he pulls back and lifts his head enough that he can press a shy kiss to Riku's forehead, ducking his head afterwards.]

Everything is much better when you're around.
