Mermaid AU ala Thor and Loki~
[What was suppose to be a relaxing trip had turned into, unsurprisingly, a trip where he ended up doing more work in his hotel room than anything else. It wasn't ideal but honestly it was to be expected and there was a part of Loki that had just expected that this was bound to happen even before he'd gotten onto the plan. Wallstreet waited for no one and he had resigned himself to sitting on the porch attached to his room, at the very least, and getting some fresh air while he typed away at his laptop and listened in on group calls as his co-workers bickered about one thing or another.
It was a particularly harrowing call that finally sent him over the edge and he'd hung up without a word, closing his laptop and leaving his hotel room without a second though. His cellphone had been left behind on his bed, the young man just needing to get away and clear his head because dammit this was suppose to be a vacation.
Loki's anger, his annoyance, had him stalking around in a bit of a haze and by the time he finally calmed down he found himself walking along the boardwalk. It was late afternoon and bustling though not near as bad as the city he was use to and slowly but surely he relaxed and eventually made his way down towards the water after slipping his shoes off and trudging through the sand. The cool breeze off the water was extremely refreshing and he let out a content sigh as he stood at the water's edge, the waves crashing gently around his bare feet as he took a moment to just exist as he was.
He really should have left his laptop at home. Or at the very least 'lost it' during transit.]

I..I hit my head, didn't I? This has to be a dream. [He murmured, shaking his head as he shifted his gaze from Thor's tail to focus on the man himself completely forgetting about his bleeding hand and twisted ankle.
At least for the moment.]
Thor? [How ironic.] I'm Loki.. [He can't help but laugh weakly.] You're a figment of my imagination, aren't you? I really did a number on myself this time..

[ He smiles briefly as he hears the man's name, but that smile quickly turns to a frown as he remembers Loki's injuries.
There's only so much Thor can do to help him... bringing him to shore was all, really. He doesn't want to see Loki go either, afraid that he'll never see him again if he does. ]
You can touch me if you like.
[ Instead of convincing him he is imagining things, like he should, Thor wishes to prove himself. It's foolish and risky, but he does so anyway. ]

[Merpeople weren't real. They were things out of stories; out of movies. Not actual things that existed.
And yet...
The offer to touch, to have that proof, is too tempting to resist and Loki keeps his bleeding hand pressed against his chest as he reaches out with the other to brush his fingers against Thor's tail. The first brush of his fingers against scales has him jerking his hand back, the solid feel of it surprising because seriously he thought he was imagining this. But then he reaches out again and applies a bit more pressure as he touches, breath catching as realization fully sets in.]
Gods you are real..

This isn't a courtship, just because he finds himself fond of the human. ]
I am.
[ He only wishes there was something he could do about those injuries. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done in the water for a human. ]
After you receive treatment, do you think you would come back to visit me?

His ankle throbs dully as he starts to focus on the situation at hand again and he glances at it even as his fingers still brush against the other's tail.]
I...yes. Here? [Loki frowns slightly.] It's not safe here is it? For you, I mean.
[It apparently wasn't safe for him either but that was besides the point.]

[ There's always the possibility he will bring others in hopes of proving what he saw, but in that case, Thor will simply keep his tail underwater and swim away. He has to be careful, and one human at a time is quite enough. ]
You can stay here, by the shore. I'll sit here as I am now.
[ Meanwhile, Loki is petting his tail, so Thor doesn't see any problem in running a hand over one of the man's legs. They're so strange up close, and yet he envies Loki for having them. ]
Please?

[This was a rather secluded area of the beach. Despite still expecting to wake up tomorrow and realize this had all been a fever dream, Loki didn't want to put his new friend in danger.]
If you're sure...once I get this all taken care of I'll b-be--I'll come back. [He stumbled over his words as the merman ran a hand over one of his leg's, an involuntary shiver going through Loki as he found himself watching Thor's hand as it moved along his leg.]
I'll be back tomorrow, I promise.
