As much as he wanted to press for answers Loki didn't, closing his eyes as he felt Thor start to work and gods was it hard not to cry out from the initial burst of pain. His body tensed and he almost jerked away, managing not to as his brother stitched the wound shut, Loki biting down on his hand to keep from crying out and to keep from biting through his tongue.

He saw Thor's response and nodded weakly as he let his hand slip from his mouth, his entire body trembling from the restraint it took not to react.

It took a moment but he managed to settle down, lifting his hands after a moment. Sleep?

Thor felt for Loki through the process. He knew how painful it could be. He wished it didn't have to be painful but he had nothing really to use. He would have to find some painkillers that would be appropriate for him. The headache would surely be terrible. Unfortunately Thor couldn't leave just yet to try and find any additional medication.

Not yet. Need to be sure.

If Loki fell asleep and Thor couldn't get him to wake up... No, he didn't want to imagine losing Loki this soon after finding him.

let's talk a little..?

Loki gave his brother a distraught look but he knew it was for the best. If he fell asleep and didn't wake up...

About? he managed to sign, shifting and attempting to prop himself up a bit though he stopped as soon as he started, his head swimming. Oh that wasn't pleasant. He closed his eyes and choked back a soft sound, his entire body protesting the action as he instinctively lifted a hand to touch his head.

Loki would be able to sleep soon enough. IT would feel like forever but once Thor was comfortable with Loki sleeping he would be more than happy to let his brother sleep for as long as he wanted. He just wanted to be sure that he would wake up from it.

Thor shifts to carefully help Loki prop up, moving so he could rest against his chest. He set his arms down on either side of Loki so he could sign in return around his brother where he could see.

Job. City life. Friends.

Of course, it was all gone down but it was something to talk about.

Resting back against his brother, Loki sighed softly, the barest of breaths escaping him as he just sort of let his body sag against Thor's. His limbs felt like lead now and gods did he just want to go to sleep for the next several hours but he couldn't. He had to stay awake.

You would hate the city. Too busy. Too secluded. No one has time. he signed, eyes lidded as he tipped his head slightly to rest it against his brother's. Didn't have many friends but a couple that I was close to. No idea if they made it.

Amora. Sigyn. William. Theodore.

He had no idea what had happened to any of them.

Job was terrible but paid the bills.

Thor adjusted a little so Loki would be most comfortable as he watches his brother sign about the life he had been living. He regretted not staying in better contact. He should have called more. Wrote letters and emails. He tried but always seemed to just miss Loki with the phone calls or would get pulled away too soon.

Mine did not.

His friends were military though. They were there at the front lines. It was to be expected. Thor was lucky to have gotten away with his life.

You liked city though?

They had both grown up in the same place but they were so different. Thor had no doubt he would have hated living in the city. He was tired of it with just the few days he visited the city.

They were both at fault for not staying in contact, Loki more than Thor. At least there had been reasons that Thor had been unable to stay in touch. Loki had simply tried to distance himself on purpose.

I'm sorry.

After he signs it he reaches out to grasp one of Thor's hands and give it a light squeeze, still feeling too weak for anything more than that. His hand slips away when Thor asks another question and Loki shrugs.

It was alright. Kept me busy. Distracted.

Thor nods, reaching to take both of Loki's hands in his own. He squeezes them as he draws his arms around his brother. He didn't fault Loki for not keeping in contact. It was understandable. Loki's relationship with their father was a weak one and you couldn't communicate with their mother without inevitably running into him.

And Thor was still close with both their parents. Loki not wanting to talk to him as much made sense. It held risks that conversations would eventually make it back to their parents.

Being the adopted son had to be difficult. Thor being born only a short time before Loki's arrival was rough. Frigga hadn't been able to conceive for so long that they chose adoption and she refused to just leave the baby they'd met behind. So.. Loki joined them. And as much as their father tried he was never quite as successful at making feel Loki actually part of the family.

Thor was too young to notice then was unable to repair the damage by time he was old enough to realize what was going on. He felt foolish.

At least now he could make sure Loki was safe.

Don't have to go to home.

Loki was grateful for the embrace both for the comfort aspect of it and simply because it helped to ground him a bit more in the moment. His head was still swimming and having Thor hug him like he was gave him a chance to close his eyes and just take a breath, allowing the ache in his head to dull somewhat.

As much as he had lashed out at his brother over the years he had never truly hated Thor. All his the feelings he had of not being good enough, of never being a good son stemmed solely from their father and how he had treated them growing up. The favoritism had been obvious, even to a young child, and it had made it's mark on Loki early on.

Need to check on mother. Need to know she's alright.

He finally responds after a long moment of nothing, having opened his eyes when he felt Thor let go of his hands and he'd simply stared down for a few minutes afterwards.

But their mother was the one thing that kept him hanging on, outside of Thor. Plus he'd promised to go back with his brother.

Thor wanted to impress upon Loki that he didn't want to force his brother into going if he ultimately wasn't comfortable. He knew that their father was hard to deal with. The man was stern and difficult to love at times. Their mother, Frigga had done her best to convince Loki that while Odin was hard on him it was out of love. She was more patient with all the rebellion and pranks but Odin struggled.

Perhaps things could be reconciled. It would be nice, to have their father look at them both with affection and not solely expectation and frustration respectively.

Will find her. Father would keep safe.

It would be a shock if Odin were still there but not Frigga. He undoubtedly would die for their mother and that was something that showed he was capable of far more love than he liked to show.

No rush.

Know he will. Cares about her.

About her and Thor. That's how it had always been and at least Loki could take comfort in knowing that their father would always look after the two people that Loki himself cared most about.

Might need extra day or two. Don't want to delay too long. They know we're here.

He didn't want to put Thor in danger.

Thor's sign was clear but there wasn't a lot of emphasis on it. He knew it was an old argument that would never gain traction. Odin had missed the window to show proof of that some time ago. The two of them having a bond was simply not to be.

Will be careful. Injury bad.

It would be safer in the long run if Loki were as healthy as possible. The injury would already slow them down. Better to be slowed down somewhere safe than during travel.

Loki didn't bother to respond. There was no point. He didn't believe that and would never believe it but he also knew how stubborn Thor was; how adamant the other could be.

Better to just let it rest.

Will heal.

At least he wasn't dead. Loki shivered at the thought and closed his eyes as he reached for one of Thor's hands to grip it tightly.

Thor knew that Loki would let it drop. IT was an old argument. Perhaps some day he would believe but it was fine that he didn't. The bridge had been burned. Just the fact that Loki had agreed to return to their homestead was enough.

He pulled his hands back to hold Loki's tightly. Both knees drew up to frame his brother's lithe frame between them. He lets go only to pull a blanket up over Loki so he could settle in easier.

He would let his brother sleep for now, planning to wake him after some time passed to make sure he was still with him. Otherwise, Loki could rest.

Outside of times that Thor woke him to check on him, Loki would sleep for almost ten hours. His body needed a chance to recover from the shock of everything and frankly he was just exhausted from overexertion. Combine that with the fact that he felt safe, despite everything that had happened, he was content to rest and allow his brother to watch over him.

Though he'd no doubt feel horrible later.

When he finally did rouse it was slow going, Loki clinging to sleep as tightly as he could but his brain demanded that he get up and start being active again. He uncurled from where he had settled, wincing faintly as his head ached briefly from the movements but compared to what the pain had been? This was a dream.

Thor chose to wait it out. He didn't move even when he felt a need to. Loki was sleeping so soundly that he wasn't willing to abandon him for a more uncomfortable position on the floor. He could sleep along with him, or listen to the quiet world outside.

He was just glad Loki woke when he roused him. That his brother still breathed and was safe. It would have hurt far too much to have come this far, to have seen and touched Loki only to have him ripped away.

Loki waking roused Thor as well, who lifted his head sluggishly. He pinches his eyes and blinks hard before looking around. Everything was still in good order it seemed and Loki was waking on his own. He rubs his own legs to see if he could get a bit of proper feeling back in them before attempting to help Loki stand.

He hadn't meant to wake up his brother but it was probably inevitable that it happened. Thor had been in watch-dog mode all night and it was rather endearing in a way. He needed rest as well, though, and Loki couldn't help but look concerned at the way the other rubbed his legs before standing.

Alright? he signed then took Thor's hands to get himself to his feet. Once upright the world spun briefly and Loki bit back a sound, closing his eyes and falling forward against his brother to steady himself.

Give him a moment. Just a moment...

A couple deep breaths later and Loki slowly eased himself upright, eyes opening as he gave Thor a nod.

Sorry. I'm okay.

Thor grips both of Loki's arms, helping him stay upright as whatever dizziness he was feeling played itself out. He was just glad that Loki was standing. This was certainly good progress considering the extent of the injury his brother had suffered. While lucky it wasn't worse it would be unwise to say it was okay.

Food.

They both would need to eat. He hovers an arm around Loki's back, an offer in case he felt unsteady. He was double and triple checking the windows now. He wanted to know if one of the creatures was out there before they found out by accident like last time.

Once settling Loki into a non-movement again he silently goes about making them something to eat, still peering out here and there. They wouldn't be able to use the water trick again due to the hydrant's destruction. They would have to move up to the next one if need be but it would hardly be safe. Better to avoid the need.

Food. Food...did not sound good right now but he knew that he needed to eat. After sleeping for as long as he had his body needed the nutrients, especially if he wanted to recover from his injuries properly. Still the idea of it made his stomach churn a bit even as he nodded and motioned Thor to go after a moment.

Once the other had left the room Loki carefully moved to sit on one of the armchairs he had set up in the room long before, glancing at the windows as he went with the same nervousness that Thor had. It wasn't until he was settled that he started to carefully strip off his sweater and the shirt underneath, both stained with blood and caked with dirt from the exploits with the creatures.

Even if he couldn't get properly cleaned right now something was better than nothing.

Thor returned in short order with food. He kept the choices light and easy on the stomach. He offers the food out before moving to try and find Loki a new shirt to wear. He would need to clean his brother up a bit though. The dried blood couldn't be comfortable.

This would mean risking a bit of noise to fetch some water. He was sure he could keep it quiet enough so long as he was careful. Being on the road for so long helped him figure out small tricks for keeping normally noise producing things to a quiet level.

Let me wash. He settles next to Loki, one wet towel, one dry and a blanket to carefully wring the hand towel out under. It would help muffle.

Loki isn't even aware that Thor is back until the other is handing him the food, the darker haired young man blinking and nodding his thanks as he slowly takes the offered subsistence. It takes him a moment more to actually attempt to eat any of it but he finally does, picking off pieces and eating slowly but hey! It's better than nothing at all, right?

He's gotten through a fair bit of it when Thor returns, his appetite returning the more he eats, and Loki looks at the washcloths then his brother.

Alright.

Thor was glad to see Loki eating. It meant he was feeling better at least. Even a small bit of food would perk him up. They would just need to make sure he didn't get any infection in the wound and that his full faculties returned. Though, with a concussion as bad as Thor suspected, he knew there might be some lasting issues as he healed.

Thank god his skull hadn't cracked, was all Thor could think to himself.

His hands are gentle as he begins slowly and carefully cleaning the blood and dirt away from Loki's pale skin. It was slow going, due to having to try and keep quiet and trying to listen out for any movements outside. Hopefully Loki would be feeling better by the end of it.

There's only the slightest flinches here and there as Thor works on cleaning the blood from his skin, everything overly sensitive since his body was so out of sorts from the concussion and wounds he'd sustained in general. He manages a little more of the food before quietly setting the rest aside and relaxing into the armchair to let Thor finish, indeed feeling better now that he was somewhat refreshed.

What he wouldn't give for a proper bath though. Perhaps one day..

A shiver goes through him eventually and Loki gently catches his brother's hand to stop him, giving him a grateful look--eyes a bit glassy but far better than they had been.

Cold. Will do for now. Thank you.

Thor nods, glad to have gotten at least most of his brother clean. He examines Loki's eyes, seeing the glassy look and frowning. At least it wasn't so dazed. Hopefully, he would recover well. Thor had seen fellow soldiers take blows to the head and recovering fully took time. They weren't exactly safe here, so time wasn't something they could use idly.

Sweater

Thor shifts to his feet, taking the bowl away and goes on a hunt for a sweater for Loki to wear. Thankfully he was easier to dress, being as lanky as he was. He returns with it to help Loki get dressed, making sure his brother didn't move too fast to make himself dizzy.

Will finish supply run. Day or two. You stay.

They didn't have time and even if his current state Loki knew that which was why he was already prepared to travel as he was currently. It wasn't the best option and if push come to shove he would make a hard choice for the sake of his brother but for now, they would get moving sooner rather than later.

It was just a matter of getting Thor to agree.

One day. Loki signed it firmly despite how weary he felt, giving his brother a look once he was dressed properly again. No more than that. Can't waste time. His expression soften just a touch and he reached out to rest a hand on Thor's shoulder and squeeze it weakly. Can't stay here he signed with his free hand, mouthing the words, speaking in a breath.

They had to get moving.
