[Somewhere along the way, Radiant Garden had become their home away from home. Sora tried to stay away from Destiny Islands, if only because he didn't want to lead anymore darkness there than necessary. Not to say that he liked leading the darkness anywhere but Radiant Garden was as safe as it could get, all things considered. The heartless had been driven away--for the most part--and the keyhole was locked. The heart of the world was safe.

So Sora, more often than not, tended to spend his downtime there. And, in turn, he tended to drag Riku along for the ride.

That was the case this time around, their Mark of Mastery exam done and his visit to the Dream World over. He was still determined to eventually pass the exam as well but, right now? Right now Sora needed a break. Some time to get his head on straight and..some time with one of his best friends.

Which is why he's currently curled up in the library of the castle with a few blankets and Riku, flipping through some books he'd found--nothing to do with Heartless, for once. Right now was about just being them.]

I think I remember my mom telling me this story before. [A small smile is on Sora's lips as he leans back against Riku's chest, holding the book open for the other to see the picture--a girl turning into a swan.]

[Riku kisses Sora's head as he shifts to look at the book]

Swan Lake. I saw the ballet with my cousin for her birthday once.

[His smile widens at the kiss and he snuggles back against the other more.]

Really? How was it? I've never gotten to see anything like that before.

[dreamsuccessor]

Boring, and depressing. The swan in the ballet dies.

....She dies?? [That has Sora closing the book so he can sit up and turn to face Riku with a distraught look on his face.] That sounds terrible!

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku nods, holding Sora close]

At least in the ballet I saw. It sucked, and I never went with my cousin again.

[Expressing falling a bit, Sora flops heavily against Riku, shifting until he can get his head underneath the other's chin.]

I'll stick to the fairy tale version.

[dreamsuccessor]

Hmm, good idea.

[He wraps an arm around Sora's waist]

I can't save you from a non-fairy tale, after all.

[A soft huff of laughter escapes the brunette and he snuggles closer.]

You hate the idea of not being able to be my knight in shining armor, don't you?

[dreamsuccessor]

I almost lost you.

[Riku's voice is soft but he still smiles]

I never want to feel the way I did when I thought you were gone again.

[Sora's expression softens and he's quick to nuzzle against Riku, burying his face against the other's neck now.]

I'll always come back to you. Always.

[dreamsuccessor]

I know. But still. If I can make sure you're safe, then I'll do it.

[seekthelight]

I want to keep you safe, too. So I guess that means we just have to stick together.

[dreamsuccessor]

Mm, good. I think I love you too much to let you go.

[seekthelight]

Good. Because I love you too. Just as much~

[dreamsuccessor]

Really? Then...

[Riku digs a small box out of his pocket, smiling]

I know we're still too young, but a world I went to had this tradition of promise rings. They were sort of a pre-proposal, and...I got you this.

[He opens the box. Inside is a pale gold ring with a heart of sapphires set in it]

[He feels Riku shifting and sits up a bit to make it easier for the other only to freeze as the explanation comes.

A pre-proposal--

A soft gasp escapes Sora as he sees the ring, looking from it to Riku.]

You--really?

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku nods]

Really. If you want. I even grabbed one for Kairi, from the two of us, if you think she'll want to be married to two idiots.

[seekthelight]

[Sora's expression is torn between crumbling and being completely ecstatic with what Riku's just said.]

All of us? The three of us, married?

[dreamsuccessor]

If that's what you want. If not, then I can take them back and use the munny on something else. But...I want to marry you someday, Sora.

[seekthelight]

I--no! No I--yes. Yes it's what I want--both of you. All of us. Together.

[A watery laugh escapes him as his eyes gleam with tears.]

I want to marry you, too.

[dreamsuccessor]

[Riku smiles, eyes also watering, as he takes Sora's ring out of the box and slips it on his finger.]
