ＳＴＡＲＧＡＺＩＮＧ - whether you're on a picnic blanket in a field, laying on the beach, or in the bed of a truck, you're with someone you care about and you're looking at the stars.

ＣＡＭＰＦＩＲＥ - camping is the most fun when you're with someone else. roasting marshmallows, telling stories. nature's got it goin' on.

ＰＡＲＫＩＮＧ - you're at the lover's lane, parked at the peak overlooking the city, it's just you and someone else in the car. maybe it's time to steam up the glass or hey, you guys can just talk if you want.

ＦＩＲＥＷＯＲＫＳ - maybe it is the fourth of july, the new year, or just because, but there's fireworks shooting off and they're magical. or scary. it depends on what floats your boat.

ＬＡＴＥ ＮＩＧＨＴ ＳＷＩＭ - maybe you're at the beach or in the backyard pool or at the lake, maybe you're going to skinny dip or maybe you'll 'fall' in with all your clothes. either way, swimming at night is pretty much always fun.

ＳＫＹ ＬＡＮＴＥＲＮＳ - perhaps you've lost someone dear and you want to do something to remember them by, maybe you're making a wish for the future.

Campfire!

Loki had been doubtful when Sam asked him to come out to the woods. What did he really have planned? Was this some sort of trap? But no, it seemed the other man was alone and just wanting to... What? Loki wasn't quite sure. They had a tentative understanding that wasn't quite a friendship blossoming - or not as Loki would think of it. He doesn't generally make friends. He'd call them something else.

Then when Sam made the campfire, he wasn't sure what was going to happen next but he was clearly still uncertain about it all.

The unease was rolling off Loki in waves and Sam was almost amused by it but he really didn't want it to be taken the wrong way. In all honesty, he was just trying to maybe keeping building that bridge between himself and the God. There was more to Loki than he let on, Sam knew that much from when they had been friends for that brief span of time and even after that.

So he wasn't about to give up on the chance to maybe actually be friends with the others.

Once the fire was built up to his liking, Sam let himself rock backwards and sit down on the ground, stretching his legs out in front of himself away from the fire, resting his hands back on the ground.

"You gonna keep standing there acting like I'm about to jump you or are you gonna relax?"

Finally, Loki crouched down, not looking much more comfortable in that position. His hands were before him and the fingers were worrying at his nails as if part of him was nervous or distracted.

He eyed Sam warily.

"I do not understand. You... Me... What do you expect to gain?"

"No idea," he admitted, shrugging as much as his current position would allow, head tilting as he looked at the other. "I figured, if nothing else, I was getting you away from all the crap going on back in New Dodge at the moment and maybe it would be a nice break for you. Would I like to be friends? Hell yeah, of course I would. I really don't want to be enemies with anyone--"

Unless they deserve it of course.

"--because man, that's just too much work and too much baggage to carry around."

"You wish to be friends... with me?" He spoke as if the entire concept was foreign to him.

An eyebrow lifted and Sam nodded.

"Pretty sure I mentioned that before. This place is all about second chances right?" he mused, shrugging as he glanced up at the stars with a faint smile. "I mean, unless you don't want to be friends. I'm not about to force it down your throat."

"Yes, you did, however... I was not of a right mind and I ... I did not think you meant it. Your kind is helpful in times of crisis, such as your friend the Captain, but I am... myself again now."

"See, now, that's the difference between me and most people. I'm actually pretty serious when I say I'm going to help someone," Sam said as he glanced back at Loki with a serious look on his face. "Or when I say I want to be friends with someone. I've never been a fan of the whole 'case by case' thing."

Loki sighed and looked down at his hands. Some insecurity may be showing.

Falling silent for a moment, Sam took note of the insecurity that was showing and let it process before he attempted to say anything else.

He didn't want to ruin any chance he may have right now.

"Look...I just don't want you to think that all of us are immediately going to side against you in the long run. The conversations I've had with you? I've really enjoyed them and I have a feeling there's a lot more to you than you like to let on."

"Such as?" He asked quietly.

He wondered how much people could see beyond his games and his mischief and the mask he put on quite a lot of the time.

"I don't think you are actually as angry and evil as you like to pretend to be," Sam said without missing a beat, looking thoughtful. "Considering how Thor talks about you? It's pretty clear you have a heart underneath all that but you've most likely been put through some pretty bad crap."

"I'm not evil," he frowned. Angry, yes... "Who said I was evil?"

Killing many in a battle situation doesn't count, as far as he was concerned. It was pretty much a way of life for many of the Asgardians anyway. It just didn't usually happen on Earth, where they may give more value to each human life.

"It's a general consensus given the whole New York thing," Sam said gently, knowing that the other wasn't evil; that much he could tell because he was actually trying in New Dodge.

But he wanted to feel the other out a bit.

"A general consensus? Among your friends, you mean?"

[ineversaidpilot]

"Okay so, first thing? I only know Steve and Natasha. So yeah, maybe they have their issues with you but I meant the general population," Sam said with a shake of his head. "People were pretty terrified by what you did in New York City."

[tricksandmischief]

"Ants...," he mutters. He doesn't think much of humans in general. Still.

It's different when you meet them as individuals but en masse he can't quite grasp that they may have feelings or be worth something.

"I was doing it for their betterment. If I had gone on to rule them...."

"You went about it in a kind of whack fashion, buddy," Sam said without any hesitation, giving Loki a look that made it clear just how insane he had thought the whole thing was.

"Not really a good way to get people to want to follow you."

"But they understand power more than subtlety, don't you think?" Because that had worked so well for him...

[ineversaidpilot]

"Power is the downfall of a lot of individuals and civilizations, Loki. You have to have a balance. You can't just expect people to give into what you want just because you're stronger."

"Why not? Oh, the rebellion and the fighting back part...," he chuckles as if finding it all a joke now.

[ineversaidpilot]

Shaking his head a bit, Sam looked back to the fire.

"You can treat it like a joke if you want, Loki, but I think you have the potential to be a pretty good leader if you'd just go about it the right way."

He sobers again.

"I would make a great leader. There are ... obstacles."

[ineversaidpilot]

"Only because you see them as obstacles. Things don't always have to be a hindrance if you just maybe look at them a different way."

"How would you make Thor look a different way?"
