"It's not stupid." Something like this is never stupid and anyone who said it was clearly had never experienced any sort of trauma in their life. "The smell is still connected, even without flames. You can't help what is and isn't a trigger."

The older blonde draws back slightly, tipping his head down down to press their foreheads together in a soothing gesture.

"I wish I could tell you it gets easier but it..doesn't. You'll learn how to disconnect from it, though. You'll learn how to make the moments of panic less intense."

"... I guess." It comes out in a soft huff, because he can see the logic but it feels like he should. Be able to help it, that is. It should be something he should be able to do something about since it's from him this reaction is coming.

Hand tightening briefly in the cloth he's gripping, Cloud slowly shakes his head, careful enough not to dislodge the older one.

"That's... okay. It's something, at least..." And while hearing 'it gets better', might have been nice, he'd seriously have a hard time to believe it. This, while less optimistic, is far more realistic, which... is more reassuring, weirdly enough, and some tension bleeds out of him.
