It was hot. Very hot. Sora hadn't really been expecting such a drastic change in the temperature, usually adapting to new worlds without issue. But the air here was thick and his clothes felt like they were drenched through--and he hadn't even fallen into any water!
Speaking of water...
Sora jumped from one odd creature to the next, narrowly avoiding their snapping jaws so he could find a more solid perch on a log that was jutting out of the water. Once there, he braced himself and grasped his keyblade with both hands, a small grin playing on his lips as he watched the Heartless flip themselves around and start gliding towards him through the water. Their faces were almost like masks, the designs glowing softly along their long snouts while shadow-y tendrils seemed to seep off them and into the water, stretching out like extra limbs--which was hilarious since they had six legs in total as it was. Each of them seemed to have different markings etched into them but Sora hadn't bothered to try and figure out what they were.
He just needed to get rid of them. The rest could be figured out later.
One of the Heartless lunged through the water once it was close enough, jaws snapping down on the log and splintering it as it thrashed it's head with a quick motion. Sora cast a quick spell and wind swept him up into the air to avoid the blow before he let himself drop down onto the beast's back. It twisted and attempted to get at him but Sora blocked this snap of jaws with his keyblade, the grin that had been there before growing wider.
"Nice try!" His moment of glory was quickly ripped away from him as the Heartless clamped it's jaws tight and thrashed, attempting to rip the keyblade away from him. Sora yelped and held on tight, losing his footing as he was thrown to the side. Another rush of wind kept him up and then the water below rushed upwards the meet him, freezing as soon as his feet hit the surface. It moved like a slide and Sora glided along it, weaving back around the Heartless and swinging upwards at it with the next pass. It disappeared in a rush of smoke just as the second one lunged in an attempt to knock the wielder off his ice track. The ice disappeared as Sora lept for a tree and caught a low hanging branch just as the heartless shattered the ice track and splashed back into the water.
Swinging himself backwards then forwards, Sora slowly built up the momentum to swing himself up in a flip and landing on the branch in a practiced crouch. Down below, the heartless glared up at him, tendrils stretching out further into the water and towards the tree itself. Sora started to say something only to pause as he realized there were several more odd shapes forming in the water, their glowing mask-like faces breaking the surface of the murky water.
One, two--five more in total.
Well then.
